Fabian Marco Johnson (born December 11, 1987) is a former professional soccer player. He played as a full-back or a wide midfielder. Fabian was born in Germany. He played for the United States national team. Before that, he played for Germany in youth competitions.

Early Life and First Steps in Soccer
Fabian Johnson was born in Munich, Germany. His father was an African-American serviceman and a basketball player in Germany. His mother was German-American. Fabian started playing soccer in 1991. His first club was Sportfreunde München.
Club Career Highlights
In 1996, Fabian joined the famous youth teams of 1860 Munich. He moved up to the main team in July 2006. He played 89 league games for them and scored four goals.
In July 2009, he moved to VfL Wolfsburg. He scored his first goal for Wolfsburg in a 2–2 game against SC Freiburg. Two years later, in July 2011, Johnson joined 1899 Hoffenheim.
On September 26, 2012, Fabian scored a goal for Hoffenheim. They won 3–0 against VfB Stuttgart. This was their first win of the new season.
In February 2014, it was announced that Johnson would join Borussia Mönchengladbach. He moved there for free after the 2013–14 season ended.
Fabian played his first league game for Borussia Mönchengladbach on August 23, 2014. He came into the game in the 72nd minute. On September 13, he started his first league game. They won 4–1 against FC Schalke 04.
He scored his first UEFA Champions League goal on November 3, 2015. This was against Juventus. He scored his first Bundesliga goal for Mönchengladbach on March 1. This goal was against SC Paderborn.
Playing for His Country
On August 25, 2011, Fabian Johnson was called to play for the United States national team. The coach, Jürgen Klinsmann, wanted him for friendly games. These games were against Costa Rica and Belgium.
Fabian had played for Germany's youth teams. But new FIFA eligibility rules allowed him to switch to the United States. He could play for the U.S. senior team.
On November 11, 2011, Fabian played his first international game for the U.S. He came on as a substitute in a 1–0 loss to France. Four days later, he started his first full international game against Slovenia. The U.S. won that game 3–2.
He played in a FIFA World Cup qualifier on June 12, 2012, against Guatemala. Johnson got his first assist for the U.S. team. This was in a 4–1 loss to Brazil on June 23, 2012.
He scored his first goal for the national team on June 1, 2014. This was in a friendly game against Turkey before the World Cup.
Fabian started all three group stage games for the United States in the 2014 FIFA World Cup. He also played in the Round of 16 game against Belgium. He scored his second national team goal on November 13, 2015. This was in a World Cup qualifying match. The U.S. won 6–1 against Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
On March 12, 2019, Johnson talked with the U.S. national team coach, Gregg Berhalter. They discussed him possibly returning to the team. Fabian had not played for the U.S. national team since September 2017. That was a World Cup qualifying loss to Costa Rica.
