Federica Brignone (born July 14, 1990) is a famous Italian alpine ski racer. She is known for competing in all types of alpine skiing races. Her main focus is on giant slalom and super-G events.

Federica has achieved a lot in her career. She won the overall World Cup title twice, in 2020 and 2025. She was the first Italian woman to win this big award. She also won five special titles for different skiing types between 2020 and 2025. Federica has won 37 World Cup races, three Olympic medals, and five World Championship medals.

Federica's Ski Racing Journey

Federica Brignone started her World Cup career at just 17 years old in December 2007. Her first full season was in 2010. At her first World Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in 2011, she won a silver medal in giant slalom.

In December 2012, Federica had surgery on her right ankle. She had to miss the rest of the 2013 season to recover.

First World Cup Wins

Federica won her first two World Cup races in the 2016 season. In 2017, she led an amazing Italian team sweep in giant slalom at the World Cup finals in Aspen. Her teammates Sofia Goggia and Marta Bassino also finished on the podium. Federica ended that season with three victories. She was also part of two other "hat tricks" (when three athletes from the same country finish in the top three) for Italy in downhill races.

Olympic and World Championship Success

At the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, Federica won her first Olympic medal, a bronze in giant slalom.

In the 2020 World Cup season, Federica earned the overall crystal globe. This is a special trophy for the skier with the most points across all races. She scored 1378 points, becoming the first Italian woman to win this title. She also won two more globes for giant slalom and combined events that season. She had five wins and eleven podium finishes.

At the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, Federica won a silver medal in giant slalom and a bronze medal in combined.

At the 2023 World Championships in Méribel, she won a gold medal in combined and a silver medal in giant slalom. This silver medal came twelve years after her first one in 2011. In the 2024 World Cup season, she won six races, which was her best number of wins at that time.

The 2025 World Championships in Saalbach were also very successful for Federica. She won a gold medal in giant slalom and a silver in super-G. During the 2025 World Cup season, she won ten races, setting a new personal best. This included her first two downhill victories. She also won the overall, downhill, and giant slalom titles for the season. She finished with 1,594 points, ahead of Lara Gut-Behrami and Sofia Goggia.

Sadly, on April 3, 2025, Federica had a bad crash during the Italian ski championships. She suffered multiple fractures in her calf and knee, and also tore a ligament in her left leg.

Personal Life

Federica Brignone was born in Milan, Lombardy, Italy, and grew up in the Aosta Valley. Her mother, Maria Rosa Quario, was also a successful alpine ski racer in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Her mother won four World Cup races and had fifteen podium finishes. Federica is engaged to French skier Nicolas Raffort. She lives in La Salle, Aosta Valley.
