Federico Delbonis (born 5 October 1990) is an Argentine former professional tennis player. He played tennis for a living. He reached his highest singles ranking of No. 33 in the world on 9 May 2016. He also reached No. 110 in doubles on 22 July 2019.
Delbonis was known for his unique way of serving the ball. He would lift his racket high, toss the ball very high, and then follow through with his swing.

Federico Delbonis's Tennis Career
Early Years: 2009–2012
Federico Delbonis started playing tennis professionally in 2007. Between 2009 and 2013, he won five smaller tournaments called Challenger and Futures titles.
In 2011, Delbonis reached his first big semifinal at the Mercedes Cup in Germany. He won six matches in a row to get there. He had to win three qualifying matches just to enter the main tournament. He finally lost to Juan Carlos Ferrero in a close match.
First Big Final: 2013
In 2013, Delbonis played in the International German Open. He won against strong players like Tommy Robredo and Fernando Verdasco. This led him to a match against the famous Roger Federer.
In a huge surprise, Delbonis beat Federer in two tie-break sets. This win got him into his first ever ATP Tour final. He finished second in the tournament, losing to Fabio Fognini. Even though he lost, his performance helped his ranking jump into the top 100 players for the first time.
Winning His First Title: 2014
In 2014, Federico Delbonis won his first ATP title. This happened at the Brasil Open. He beat Paolo Lorenzi in three sets. This victory helped him reach a new high ranking of 44 in men's singles.
Best Season and Davis Cup Win: 2016
The year 2016 was one of Delbonis's best. He started by reaching the third round of the 2016 Australian Open. This was his best result at a major tournament at that time. He even beat the tall player Ivo Karlović.
Later that year, he had a big win at the 2016 Indian Wells Masters. He beat the second-ranked player in the world, Andy Murray. This was his third win against a top 10 player.
Delbonis then won his second career title at the 2016 Grand Prix Hassan II in Morocco. He won the whole tournament without losing a single set. He beat Borna Ćorić in the final.
A very important moment for Delbonis came in the 2016 Davis Cup. He played for Argentina in the final against Croatia. He won his final match against Ivo Karlović. This victory helped Argentina win their first ever Davis Cup title!
Big Achievements: 2021
In 2021, Delbonis continued to achieve great things. In March, he reached his fifth doubles final.
In May, he made it to the quarterfinals of a Masters 1000 tournament in Rome. This was his best performance at such a big event. He beat strong players like David Goffin and Félix Auger-Aliassime. After this, he returned to the top 50 singles players.
Delbonis also had his best performance at a Grand Slam tournament. He reached the fourth round of the French Open. He had never gone past the second round before. He won against players like Pablo Andújar and Fabio Fognini.
Later Career and Retirement: 2022–2024
In 2022, Delbonis reached the semifinals of the 2022 Argentina Open. He beat Fabio Fognini again before losing to Casper Ruud.
He played in the 2022 French Open and won one match. He also played in 2022 Wimbledon Championships and the 2022 US Open. He lost in the first round at Wimbledon and the US Open.
His ranking slowly dropped. He fell out of the top 200 players in April 2023. He then dropped out of the top 250 in September 2023.
Federico Delbonis announced that he was retiring from professional tennis on 29 January 2024. His last match was in doubles at the 2024 Argentina Open.
