Forash (Sylheti: ꠚꠞꠣꠡ) is a special plant that grows in winter. It belongs to the legume family, like peas and beans. Forash is very popular in Sylhet, a region in Bangladesh.
It's a type of French bean. People cook the raw Forash as a vegetable. But the most important part is its seeds. Forash is often cooked with fish or meat. It tastes great with cooked rice and Roti (a type of flatbread). Many Sylhetis live in other countries, like the United Kingdom, the United States, and the Middle East. So, Forash is dried in the sun and sent to them in packets. This way, they can enjoy a taste of home!

Discovering Forash: A Winter Crop
Forash is a plant that grows best in winter. It needs a dry winter climate and moist soil. This is why it has been grown in Sylhet for a very long time. It first came to Sylhet from France. That's why it's called Forash in the Sylheti language.
This vegetable grows really well in the rich soil of Sylhet. In recent years, it has also started growing in other parts of Bangladesh, like Chittagong and Comilla. Because many Sylhetis around the world love Forash, it is now sent to countries like England, America, and Canada.
