Franklin is a small town located in Franklin County, Vermont, United States. In 2020, about 1,363 people lived there. The town was first called "Huntsburgh." But in 1817, its name was changed to "Franklin."

About Franklin's Location

Franklin is right on the northern edge of Franklin County. This also means it's on the northern border of Vermont, next to the Canada–United States border. The main part of town is a small community called Franklin, found near the town's center. East Franklin is another community on the eastern side of the town.

Several roads help people get around Franklin. Vermont Route 120 goes through the town center. It leads south to North Sheldon and east to East Franklin. Vermont Route 235 travels northwest from the center of Franklin to Morses Line, which is right at the Canadian border. Another road, Vermont Route 236, goes through the eastern part of town. It heads north to East Franklin and south towards South Franklin.

The town of Franklin covers about 105.6 square kilometers (or 40.8 square miles) in total. Most of this area, about 99.4 square kilometers (38.4 square miles), is land. The rest, about 6.2 square kilometers (2.4 square miles), is water.

Lake Carmi is a big lake that takes up the eastern part of the town. You can find Lake Carmi State Park on the southeast shore of the lake. Water from Lake Carmi flows out from its northeast end into the Pike River. This river then travels north and west through Quebec before reaching Missisquoi Bay in Lake Champlain. The Rock River also flows through the western part of Franklin. It also empties into Mississquoi Bay.
