The Frederick House River is a river in Ontario, Canada. It is about 100 kilometres (62 mi) long. This river is part of the larger James Bay river system. It flows through the Cochrane District in northeastern Ontario.

The river starts at Night Hawk Lake in the city of Timmins. It then flows north until it reaches the Abitibi River. The river and an old trading post were named after Prince Frederick, Duke of York and Albany. He was a son of King George III of the United Kingdom.

The Frederick House River begins at Night Hawk Lake in Timmins. This starting point is about 274 metres (899 ft) above sea level. From there, the river flows north.

Journey Through Lakes and Towns

The river flows into Frederick House Lake. This lake is near a community called Connaught. Long ago, a trading post called Frederick House post was located here. After leaving the lake, the river continues its journey north. It enters an area known as Cochrane, Unorganized, North Part.

Water Features and Landmarks

As the river flows, it goes over a small dam. It also passes the beautiful Wanatango Falls. The Wicklow River joins it from the right side. The Frederick House River then continues north. It flows along the western edge of the town of Cochrane.

Further along, the river flows over the Neelands Rapids. It passes under two bridges: one for Ontario Highway 11 and another for the Ontario Northland Railway. Then, it goes over the Sankey Rapids near the community of Frederick. The Buskegau River joins the Frederick House River from the left at the Carter Rapids. Finally, the Frederick House River reaches its end. It flows into the Abitibi River at an elevation of 216 metres (709 ft).
