Fremont is found along Winona County Road 29. It's close to County Road 6. The community is about two miles south of Interstate 90. Nearby communities include Utica, Lewiston, St. Charles, Peterson, and Troy.
What You'll Find in Fremont
Even though it's a small community, Fremont has some interesting buildings. It is home to the town hall for Fremont Township. This is where local government meetings happen. There is also a general store that looks much like it did when it was built in 1856. You can also see an old creamery building and a historic school.
Fremont's History and Name
Fremont had its own post office for many years, from 1876 to 1910. The community was named after John C. Fremont. He was a famous explorer and soldier. He also ran for President of the United States. John C. Fremont stayed in the community for a short time while he was campaigning.
