Fritz Creek Community Hub and Store History

In 1954, a local family set aside two acres of land for a community center. This center was meant to be a gathering place for people in Fritz Creek. It was built as a large log building. Many community events, like square dances, were held there for years.

Building Changes and Challenges

The building was damaged by the big 1964 Alaska earthquake. It needed major repairs to its foundation. Over time, it was used less as a community center. Instead, it was often rented out for different events.

In 1982, the property was sold. The building was then changed into a general store and gas station. A post office was added in 1983. Later, hot food and a small dining area were included. This helped the store become a popular gathering spot again for the local community.

Recent Events at the Store

In 2019, a cat named Stormy, who had lived in the store for many years, had to leave. State law did not allow animals in the store. Stormy found a new home with a local resident. The building was sold a few more times. Sadly, it was badly damaged in a fire in July 2023. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
