Marsh Bedstraw (also known as Galium palustre) is a small, green plant that grows every year. It belongs to the Rubiaceae plant family. You can find this plant in many places around the world!

It grows naturally in almost every country in Europe. It also grows in Morocco, the Azores islands, Turkey, Turkmenistan, and parts of Siberia in Russia. You can find it in Greenland, eastern Canada, and some parts of the United States. In the U.S., it's mostly found in Michigan and the Northeast. Sometimes, you might even spot it in places like Tennessee, Montana, Washington, and Oregon.

In some areas, like New York, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts, Marsh Bedstraw is sometimes called a "noxious weed." This means it can grow very easily and sometimes takes over areas where other plants are trying to grow. It has also started growing in new places like Kamchatka (in Russia), Australia, New Zealand, and Argentina.

Where Marsh Bedstraw Grows

In Britain, Marsh Bedstraw is an important part of certain plant groups. It helps make up what are called "Purple moor grass and rush pastures." These are special habitats in the UK that are important for biodiversity.

This plant likes to grow in wet areas. You'll often find it in soils that don't drain water very well. It can grow in both neutral and slightly acidic soils. These areas are usually in lowlands or at the edges of uplands. In England, it's especially common in the South West, like in Devon.
