Givrins is a small town, also called a municipality, located in Switzerland. It is part of the canton of Vaud and belongs to the Nyon district. Givrins is found on a small hill at the base of the beautiful Jura Mountains.

History of Givrins

Givrins has a long history. It was first mentioned around the year 1087. Back then, it was known by the name Givriacus. Later on, its name changed a bit. In 1145, people called it Gevrins, and between 1155 and 1185, it was referred to as Givriacum.

Geography of Givrins

Givrins covers an area of about 4 square kilometers (1.5 square miles). A big part of this land is used for nature and farming. About 42% of the area is used for agriculture, which means growing crops or raising animals. Almost 43% of Givrins is covered by forests.

The rest of the land is where buildings and roads are located, making up about 13.6% of the area. A tiny part, 0.3%, is made up of rivers or lakes. Most of the water in Givrins is in lakes.

Givrins used to be part of the old Nyon District. However, in 2006, that district was changed. Givrins then became part of the new Nyon district.
