Geography

Glenwood is found at coordinates 41°32′42″N 87°36′43″W / 41.54500°N 87.61194°W / 41.54500; -87.61194. It covers an area of about 3.26 square miles (8.45 square kilometers), and all of it is land.

A special feature near Glenwood is the Glenwood Shoreline. This is an ancient shoreline from a huge lake called Lake Chicago that existed long ago. The village is almost completely surrounded by large forest preserves, which are like big natural parks. The nearby village of Thornton is also surrounded by these preserves.

Glenwood has several neighbors. To the west is Homewood. To the north, you'll find Thornton. Lynwood is to the east. To the south are Ford Heights and Chicago Heights.

Glenwood has several schools for younger students. These include Longwood Elementary School, Hickory Bend Elementary School, Brookwood Middle School, and Brookwood Junior High School.

For high school, students from Glenwood attend one of two schools. Half of the village goes to Bloom High School, and the other half attends Homewood-Flossmoor High School. There is also a private school in Glenwood called Glenwood Academy. It used to be known as Glenwood School for Boys and Glenwood School for Boys and Girls.
