Gonzalo Suárez Morilla was a famous Spanish film director, writer, and screenwriter. He was born in Oviedo and lived in Madrid. Over many decades, he created imaginative stories for books, television, and the cinema.

Life and Creative Storytelling Career
Gonzalo Suárez started his creative life by writing exciting tales. In 1963, he published his very first novel, titled De cuerpo presente. Soon, he decided to bring his stories to life on the screen. He learned to work as a movie director and screenwriter.
His movies quickly gained fame across the world. His 1975 film The Regent's Wife was shown at the 9th Moscow International Film Festival. Later, his 1991 drama Don Juan in Hell entered the prestigious 17th Moscow International Film Festival. In 1985, he directed a television series called Los pazos de Ulloa for Televisión Española. He also acted in a movie by the director Pedro Almodóvar named ¿Qué he hecho yo para merecer esto?. In 2003, the Gijón International Film Festival gave him the Nacho Martínez Award for his great work.
Family and Close Teamwork
Suárez often worked with his family to make movies. His younger brother, Carlos Suárez, was a talented cinematographer who filmed many of his projects. Working together helped them create beautiful visual scenes. Gonzalo had four children with Hélène Girard. One child became a writer and another became a video game designer. Gonzalo Suárez passed away peacefully at his home in Madrid in 2026 at age 92.
