Gooseberry Falls State Park is a cool state park in Minnesota, United States. It's located right on the North Shore of Lake Superior. You can find it near Two Harbors, Minnesota, along the beautiful Minnesota Highway 61.

The park is famous for its three amazing waterfalls: Upper, Middle, and Lower Gooseberry Falls. All of these waterfalls are on the Gooseberry River.

Discovering Gooseberry Falls State Park

The park became official in 1937. Before that, in 1933, Minnesota decided to protect this special area. Many of the park's older buildings were built between 1934 and 1941.

These buildings were made by the Civilian Conservation Corps, a group of young men who worked on public projects. They used colorful stones like red, blue, brown, and black basalt to build them.

Visitor Center and Fun Activities

In 1996, the Joseph N. Alexander visitor center was built. This center has cool displays about the park. It also has a movie room and a gift shop.

The visitor center often hosts fun public events. You can learn about nature, see wildlife, look at the stars, or even enjoy music programs.

Camping and Trails for Adventure

Gooseberry Falls State Park has 70 camping spots. You can camp there all year round, even in winter! These spots do not have electricity.

The park also has 18 miles (29 km) of hiking trails. About 8 miles (13 km) of these trails are great for mountain biking. These trails even connect to the longer Superior Hiking Trail. Many people enjoy picnicking and swimming along the trails too.

Amazing Wildlife at the Park

Gooseberry Falls State Park is home to many different animals. You might see white-tailed deer walking through the woods. Sometimes, Canadian lynx and black bears visit the park.

You might also spot a timber wolf or an marten. If you like fishing, the lakes have salmon and trout that swim through.

Bird watchers can look for many birds that live in evergreen forests. You might also see ravens flying overhead or herring gulls near the water.
