Grand Isle is a town in Vermont, United States. It is located on an island also called Grand Isle, within Grand Isle County. In 2020, about 2,086 people lived there.
A ferry service connects Grand Isle to Plattsburgh, New York. This ferry leaves from Gordon's Landing on the western side of Grand Isle.

History of Grand Isle
The town of Grand Isle has an interesting past. It was first called "Middle Hero." This name was given in November 1798 when it separated from the town of "South Hero."
Later, in November 1810, the town's name was officially changed to "Grand Isle." This is the name it still uses today.
Geography and Natural Features
Grand Isle is located on the northern part of South Hero Island. This island is also known as "Grand Isle" and is found in Lake Champlain.
The town shares its borders with other towns in Grand Isle County. To the south is South Hero, and to the north is North Hero.
Across the western part of Lake Champlain, you'll find Plattsburgh in New York. To the east, across the lake's eastern channel, are Milton and St. Albans in Vermont.
Islands and Parks
Grand Isle includes a few smaller islands. Savage Island is in the eastern part of the town. Young Island and Bixby Island, together known as the Sister Islands, are in the northwest.
Grand Isle State Park is a popular spot in the southeastern part of town. It has beautiful views and access to Lake Champlain.
Land and Water Area
The total area of Grand Isle is about 91 square kilometers (35.1 square miles). A large part of this area is water.
About 42.5 square kilometers (16.4 square miles) of the town is land. The remaining 48.5 square kilometers (18.7 square miles), which is about 53% of the total area, is covered by water.
