North Hero is a small and friendly town in Vermont, United States. It is the main town, also called the shire town, of Grand Isle County. In 2020, about 939 people lived there.
The town got its name from Ethan Allen, a brave hero of the American Revolutionary War.

North Hero is right in the middle of Grand Isle County. It covers all of North Hero Island in Lake Champlain. It also includes smaller islands like Knight Island and Butler Island.
Neighboring Towns and States
To the north, North Hero borders the town of Alburgh. To the west, it's next to Isle La Motte. South of North Hero is the town of Grand Isle. All these towns are in Grand Isle County.
Across Lake Champlain to the east are St. Albans and Swanton in Franklin County, Vermont. To the southwest, across the lake's western part, is Beekmantown in Clinton County, New York.
Travel and Waterways
U.S. Route 2 is a main road that goes through North Hero from north to south. In the north, a bridge over the Alburg Passage connects it to Alburgh. In the south, another bridge over The Gut connects it to South Hero Island (Grand Isle).
North Hero covers about 120.6 square kilometers (46.6 square miles). Most of this area, about 85.8 square kilometers (33.1 square miles), is water from Lake Champlain. The land area is about 34.8 square kilometers (13.4 square miles).
