South Hero is a town in Vermont, located on an island called Grand Isle. It is part of Grand Isle County. In 2020, about 1,674 people lived there.

Geography of South Hero
South Hero covers the southern part of Grand Isle, which is a larger island. It also includes smaller islands in Lake Champlain, such as Providence Island and Stave Island.
The town is surrounded by Lake Champlain. To the west, across the lake, are towns in New York. To the east and south, across the lake, are towns in Vermont. You can even get to Colchester by the Island Line Trail, though there's a short ferry ride needed for a small gap.
U.S. Route 2 goes through South Hero. It heads north into the town of Grand Isle. To the east, it crosses Lake Champlain over a sandbar bridge into Milton. Burlington, Vermont's largest city, is about 19 miles (31 km) south by road.
The main part of the town, often called the village of South Hero, is located along U.S. Route 2. The total area of South Hero is about 47.5 square miles (123.0 km2). Most of this area, about 32.5 square miles (84.4 km2), is water.

Most of the people living in South Hero were White (about 97.94%). A small number of people were from other racial backgrounds. About 0.53% of the population was Hispanic or Latino.
About 32.6% of households had children under 18 living with them. Most households (61.7%) were married couples. The average household had 2.56 people, and the average family had 2.98 people.
The population was spread out by age. About 24.9% were under 18 years old. The median age was 40 years. This means half the people were younger than 40 and half were older.
The average income for a household in South Hero was $52,344. For families, the average income was $61,198. About 4.5% of the population lived below the poverty line.
Even though South Hero has fewer full-time residents, it becomes much busier in the summer. Many seasonal residents and tourists, often from Canada, come to visit.
Culture in South Hero
South Hero has a strong farming tradition. There are farms that have been in families for many generations. There are also newer farms that focus on sustainable and organic methods. Growing apples and raising dairy cows are still very important industries in the town.
The local school, Folsom Elementary, teaches students from kindergarten to 8th grade. It also serves as the town's community center. Many events happen there, like library programs, school plays, and sports events. The town also hosts an annual marathon and half-marathon race, which starts and ends at the school.

South Hero has been home to several interesting people:
- Jewett W. Adams: He was the fourth Governor of Nevada. He was born in South Hero.
- Craig Alanson: A New York Times bestselling author.
- Ebenezer Allen: He owned the first settlement in South Hero. He was also a cousin of Ethan Allen.
- Asa Lyon: He was a U.S. Representative.
- Sarah M. Dawson Merrill: An educator.
- Barbara West: A television news anchor and former ABC TV network journalist. She was also a former Miss Vermont.
