Green Lowther is a cool hill located in the Lowther Hills range. This range is part of the Southern Uplands in beautiful Scotland. It is the very highest point in the Lowther Hills. You can find it in Lanarkshire, which is east of the town of Sanquhar.
At the top of Green Lowther, there used to be a special microwave array. This was like a big antenna for sending signals. Today, a tall telecommunications mast is still there, right next to a transmitter station.
Exploring Green Lowther's Unique Road
Green Lowther has a very special road leading to its summit. This is a private service road. It first goes up a nearby hill called Lowther Hill. Then, it continues over a spot called Green Trough to reach the top of Green Lowther.
Britain's Highest Paved Roads
This road is super important because it's the second highest paved road in all of Britain! The only paved road higher than this one is Great Dun Fell in the Pennines. What's even cooler is that the Green Lowther road is the highest road of any kind in all of Scotland. Imagine driving or cycling on a road so high up!
