Hakeem Tyrone Dawodu (born July 2, 1991) is a Canadian mixed martial artist. He competes in the Featherweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Before joining the UFC, he fought for the World Series of Fighting.

Early Life and Training

Hakeem Dawodu was born in Calgary, Canada. His mother is from Nigeria, and his father is from Jamaica. When Hakeem was six, his mother raised him on her own.

Hakeem had a difficult childhood. When he was 14, a counselor suggested he try Muay Thai training. This helped him learn to control his anger and focus his energy. He became very skilled in Muay Thai, which is a type of martial art from Thailand.

Mixed Martial Arts Career

Hakeem started his fighting career in Muay Thai and Kickboxing. As an amateur, he won 42 fights and lost only 5. He won 15 of those fights by knockout. As a professional, he had an amazing record of 9 wins and no losses, with 7 knockouts.

Fighting in the World Series of Fighting

Hakeem Dawodu started his professional mixed martial arts (MMA) career on February 21, 2014. His first fight was at WSOF Canada 1, where he won by knockout in the first round.

He continued to win his next fights in the World Series of Fighting (WSOF). He often won by knockout or technical knockout. This means he won by hitting his opponent until they could not continue.

In December 2015, he fought Marat Magomedov, and the fight ended in a draw. A draw means neither fighter won. They had a rematch in July 2016, and Hakeem won that fight. In March 2017, he won a fight by unanimous decision, which was his first win that way.

Joining the Ultimate Fighting Championship

On November 11, 2017, Hakeem Dawodu signed a contract to fight in the UFC. This is one of the biggest MMA organizations in the world.

His first UFC fight was on March 17, 2018, where he lost by submission. This means his opponent used a hold that made Hakeem give up. After that, he won his next three fights by decision.

In July 2019, Hakeem won a fight against Yoshinori Horie by knockout. This impressive win earned him the Performance of the Night award. This is a special bonus given to fighters who have an exciting performance.

He continued to win fights by split decision, meaning the judges had different opinions on who won, but most of them picked Hakeem. In September 2020, his opponent, Zubaira Tukhugov, weighed too much for the fight. Hakeem still won the fight by split decision.

In 2021, Hakeem had to pull out of a fight because of a shoulder injury. He later lost a fight by unanimous decision. In February 2022, he won against Michael Trizano by unanimous decision.

In September 2022, Hakeem weighed too much for his fight against Julian Erosa. He lost that fight by unanimous decision. His most recent fight was in August 2023, where he lost to Cub Swanson by unanimous decision.
