Discovering Hanceville's Past
Hanceville was first settled in 1832. It officially became a city in May 1879. When Cullman County was created in 1877, Hanceville was split between two counties. Later, in 1901, the county lines were changed again. Since then, Hanceville has been fully located within Cullman County.
Exploring Hanceville's Location
Hanceville is found in the southeastern part of Cullman County. A main road, U.S. Route 31, goes right through the city. This road leads north about 9 miles (14 km) to Cullman, which is the county seat. It also goes south about 14 miles (23 km) to Smoke Rise.
The city covers a total area of about 4.39 square miles (11.36 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with a very small part being water.
