Hauteville is a small town, also called a municipality, located in the Gruyère district. It is part of the canton of Fribourg in Switzerland. The name Hauteville comes from an old French phrase meaning "high town."

History of Hauteville

Hauteville has a long history. It was first mentioned in official papers in 1148. Back then, it was known as apud Altam villam. Later, in 1227, another record mentioned it as Jocelnus de Altaville.
