Henry is a small city in Marshall County, Illinois, United States. In 2020, about 2,320 people lived there. It is part of the larger Peoria area.

Discovering Henry's Past
Henry was named after General James D. Henry. The city was first mapped out in 1834. Early settlers chose this spot because the land on the west side of the Illinois River was high. This meant their homes would be safe from floods.
A City by a Dam
Henry's fun slogan is "Best Town in Illinois by a Dam Site." This comes from a special feature in the city. Henry was home to the very first lock and dam built on the Illinois River. This important project was finished in 1870 and cost about $400,000.
A Place for Retreat
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Peoria has a special retreat house in Henry. It's called Nazareth Retreat House, and it used to be known as King's House.
Where is Henry Located?
Henry is in the northern part of Marshall County. It sits right next to the Illinois River on its eastern side. The river also forms the border with Putnam County.
Getting Around Henry
Illinois Route 18 runs through the middle of Henry. It's known as Third Street and School Street. This route crosses the Illinois River on the Henry Bridge. From there, you can travel about 28 miles (45 km) east to Streator.
Illinois Route 29 is on the west side of Henry. It goes north and east about 24 miles (39 km) to Spring Valley. If you head southwest, it's about 33 miles (53 km) to Peoria.
