Herb Parsons Lake is a cool reservoir lake located in Fayette County, Tennessee. It's close to the town of Collierville. The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency owns and takes care of this lake. It's named after Herb Parsons, who was a very famous exhibition shooter from the area.

People mostly visit Herb Parsons Lake for fishing, hiking, and biking on its trails. It's also a great place to see wildlife. The lake has a place to launch boats, special spots that attract fish, and a fishing pier that's easy for everyone to use. You can also find bait and tackle, boats to rent, and snacks at the concessions.

How Herb Parsons Lake Started

Herb Parsons Lake first opened to the public on July 1, 1954. It was originally known as Fisherville Lake. This name came from the nearby town of Fisherville. The lake was built as a reservoir (a man-made lake) by the Tennessee Game and Fish Commission. This happened in the early 1950s.

Herb Parsons, a well-known local exhibition shooter, passed away in 1959. After his death, the Commission decided to rename the lake in his honor. The name change became official on July 26, 1964.

Fish and Other Animals

Herb Parsons Lake is home to many different kinds of fish. You can find largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, and redear sunfish. There are also blue, channel, and bullhead catfish.

The fish that people catch most often are largemouth bass, blue catfish, and channel catfish. However, many people mostly try to catch largemouth bass. On the southern side of the lake, there's a cove where you can see beaver dams.

Fun Trails to Explore

There are several trails around Herb Parsons Lake. Some of them even overlap. A bike trail goes through the woods for 9.7 miles. This trail is made of hard-packed silt and clay.

There's also a shorter walking trail that is seven miles long. Along this trail, you'll find signs that tell you the names of the different trees around the lake.
