Himmelried is a small town, also called a municipality, located in the Thierstein district. It's part of the canton of Solothurn in Switzerland.

Himmelried was first mentioned in official records way back in 1288. Back then, it was called in villa Heimenriet. This shows that people have lived here for a very long time!

Himmelried covers an area of about 6 square kilometers (about 2.3 square miles). A big part of this land, almost 60%, is covered by forests. About 30% is used for farming, like growing crops or for pastures where animals graze.
