Making the Movie
How the Idea Started
Director Steven Spielberg started thinking about making a Peter Pan movie in the early 1980s. He worked with Walt Disney Pictures and Paramount Pictures. At first, the movie was going to follow the stories from the 1924 silent movie and the 1953 animated Disney movie.
Filming Hook
The movie began to be planned in 1985. But Spielberg stopped working on it for a while. Then, James V. Hart wrote the script with director Nick Castle. They worked with TriStar Pictures. Spielberg decided to direct the movie in 1989.
Hook was filmed almost entirely on special sound stages. These stages were at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, California. This allowed the filmmakers to create the magical world of Neverland indoors.
