Hormel Foods Corporation, often called Hormel Foods or just Hormel, is an American company that makes and sells many different kinds of food. It was started in 1891 in Austin, Minnesota, by George A. Hormel. Back then, it was known as George A. Hormel & Company.
The company first focused on packaging and selling meats like ham, sausage, pork, chicken, beef, and lamb. In 1937, they introduced their famous product, Spam. By the 1980s, Hormel began offering a wider variety of packaged and refrigerated foods. In 1993, the company changed its name to Hormel Foods Corporation. Today, you can find Hormel products in over 80 countries around the world. They own many popular brands, including Planters, Columbus Craft Meats, Dinty Moore, Jennie-O, and Skippy.

MegaMex Foods: A Partnership for Mexican Flavors
In 2009, Hormel Foods teamed up with a Mexican company called Herdez del Fuerte to create a new company called MegaMex Foods. This was a "joint venture," which means two companies work together to form a new business.
What MegaMex Foods Does
MegaMex Foods was created to make, market, and sell Mexican-style sauces and other related foods in the United States. Some of their first brands included Chi-Chi's, La Victoria, Búfalo, Doña María, and Herdez.
Growing the Business
In 2010, MegaMex acquired Don Miguel Foods Corporation. Don Miguel made fresh and frozen ready-to-eat foods like mini tacos, flautas, and burritos. This helped MegaMex offer even more convenient meal options.
A year later, in 2011, MegaMex bought Fresherized Foods. This company was a major supplier of refrigerated guacamole in the U.S., known for its Wholly Guacamole, Wholly Salsa, and Wholly Queso brands. This acquisition added popular dips to MegaMex's product line.
In 2021, MegaMex started selling their Tres Cocinas brand of pepper pastes to restaurants and food service businesses. This expanded their reach beyond grocery stores.
