Imrul Kayes (born February 2, 1987) is a former international cricket player from Bangladesh. He was a left-handed batsman and sometimes played as a wicket-keeper. He also captained the Comilla Victorians team.

Imrul Kayes's Cricket Journey

Starting His International Career

Imrul Kayes began his professional cricket journey in 2006. He played in many first-class and One Day matches before joining the Bangladesh national team. His first international One Day match was in October 2008 against New Zealand.

He made his first Test match appearance in November 2008 against South Africa. He was an opening batsman, meaning he was one of the first players to bat for his team.

Finding His Form in 2010

In 2010, Imrul Kayes started playing really well. He scored 867 runs in One Day International (ODI) matches, making him one of the top five run-scorers that year. He also hit his first ever century (100 runs in one game) in an ODI against New Zealand.

Amazing Wicket-Keeping Skills

In 2017, during a Test match against New Zealand, Imrul Kayes stepped in as a substitute wicket-keeper. He did an amazing job, catching five dismissals in one innings! This was a record for any substitute wicket-keeper in a Test match.

Record-Breaking Runs in 2018

Imrul Kayes had an incredible series against Zimbabwe in October 2018. In the first ODI, he scored his highest ever score of 144 runs. He continued to play brilliantly, scoring 90 and 115 runs in the next two matches. In total, he scored 349 runs in that three-match series. This was the second-highest number of runs ever scored by a player in a three-match ODI series!

Playing in the 2011 World Cup

Imrul Kayes was a key player for Bangladesh in the 2011 Cricket World Cup. He was the top run-scorer for his team in the tournament, with 188 runs. He also won the "Man of the Match" award twice. This means he was chosen as the best player in those games. He helped Bangladesh win against England and the Netherlands.

Playing for Club Teams

Bangladesh Premier League (BPL)

In 2012, the Bangladesh Cricket Board started a new tournament called the Bangladesh Premier League. This was a Twenty20 cricket league. Imrul Kayes was chosen to play for the Sylhet Royals team. Later, he also played for the Comilla Victorians and the Chattogram Challengers in the BPL.

Retirement from Cricket

Imrul Kayes announced that he was retiring from Test and first-class cricket in November 2024.
