What Happens in Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus?
This section explains the main story of the movie. It follows the adventures of Zim and Dib.
Zim's Big Plan and Dib's Wait
The movie starts with Zim and his robot helper GIR returning. They had been gone for a long time. Dib Membrane, Zim's human enemy, had been waiting for them. Dib had become out of shape while waiting. Zim tells Dib that his long absence was a trick. He wanted Dib to get unfit so he couldn't stop Zim's plan. Zim then tries to tell the Almighty Tallest (his alien leaders) about "Phase 2" of his plan. But he realizes he forgot what Phase 2 is!
Dib's Training and a New Device
Dib starts training to get back in shape. His sister, Gaz, helps him. Once Dib is ready, his father, Professor Membrane, gives him a special device. It's called the Membracelet. This device is meant to use the good energy of children around the world. However, Professor Membrane doesn't believe in aliens. He is disappointed that Dib does. So, Dib goes to face Zim without his father's full support.
Zim's Sadness and a Big Mistake
Dib finds Zim feeling very sad. Zim can't come up with a new plan. He also learned that the Tallest don't care about him at all. Feeling defeated, Zim gives up to Dib. Dib decides to show Zim to the world during his father's big speech. Dib brings Zim to the speech. He lets Zim change the Membracelet so he can show Zim to everyone. But as Zim takes over the live broadcast, Professor Membrane disappears. Zim then takes over the stage while in disguise.
Earth's New Problem: The Florpus
The next day, Dib and Gaz wake up to find they are trapped in their own home. They are held by Clembrane, a failed clone of their father made by Zim. Zim has taken over Professor Membrane's company. He sells Membracelets that have alien technology. Zim orders all children on Earth to hold hands while wearing the bracelets. Then, he uses Minimoose to move Earth. He teleports the planet right into the path of the Irken Armada. This is to force the Tallest to visit him. Meanwhile, the Tallest are annoyed by Zim. They plan to destroy him and Earth once they arrive.
Moving Earth suddenly opens a "Florpus." This is a huge rip in space and time. It can swallow the planet and mix it with other realities. Zim ignores this danger. He continues to get ready for the Tallest to arrive. Dib and Gaz manage to escape. They use a spaceship that used to belong to Tak. They travel to Moo-Ping 10, a space prison. Professor Membrane is being held there. They free him and head back to Earth. Dib tells his father he wants him to be proud. Professor Membrane says he is already proud, even with Dib's belief in aliens.
Saving Earth and the Florpus's End
Dib lands on Earth and fights Zim. He wants control of Minimoose to stop the Florpus. Professor Membrane, who has robotic body parts, soon comes to help Dib. The Membranes get Minimoose back. They do this by turning Clembrane against Zim. Professor Membrane then works to fix Minimoose's effects. Just as Earth is about to enter the Florpus, the Irken Armada arrives. They are there to destroy the planet. Earth briefly experiences different realities mixing together. But Professor Membrane finally figures out how to reset Minimoose. He teleports Earth back to its original spot. The Tallest's ship, the Massive, flies straight into the Florpus instead.
Back on Earth, the Membrane family is together again. Zim appears at their window. He teases them, saying his real "Phase 2" was stealing a small statue from Dib's living room. Zim calls the Tallest to tell them he succeeded. But he sees them suffering in a terrible alternate reality. Zim thinks their screams mean they are happy with his work. Then, a falling dog crushes him. GIR had launched this dog into space earlier. GIR then launches the dog again!

How the Movie Was Made
Learn how Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus came to be.
The Announcement and Idea
On November 8, 2016, a fan asked C. H. Greenblatt, who created shows like Harvey Beaks, about an Invader Zim movie. Greenblatt said that Jhonen Vasquez was making one for Nickelodeon. Jhonen first denied this on Twitter. He was likely not allowed to say anything yet.
On April 4, 2017, Nickelodeon officially announced the 71-minute movie. This was many years after the original show first aired. At San Diego Comic-Con 2018, Jhonen Vasquez explained more. Nickelodeon had asked him for years to do more Invader Zim. He had always said no because he was busy or couldn't agree on a budget. But he was unhappy with other projects he was working on. So, he finally said yes to Nickelodeon's offer. Nickelodeon first wanted a new TV series. Jhonen suggested a six-episode mini-series instead. He then changed his mind to a movie. He felt a movie would be much less stressful to make.
Creating the Film
Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus was made by Nickelodeon Animation Studio. Maven Animation Studio in South Korea helped with the animation. Jhonen Vasquez said they wrote the movie in 2015. By July 2018, they were getting the first animated scenes back from Maven Animation Studio.
Jhonen Vasquez was the executive producer. He also voiced Zim's computer. Kevin Manthei composed the music for the film. Jenny Goldberg, who worked on the Invader Zim comic books, was the art director. Breehn Burns, the supervising producer, confirmed that the movie was finished on January 17, 2019.
When the Movie Was Released
The movie was first made as a TV film for Nickelodeon. But on May 10, 2019, Netflix bought the rights to show it. On July 23, 2019, Netflix released a short clip. It also showed the release date. The movie was set to come out on August 16, 2019.
Before the public release, there were special screenings. Nickelodeon held one for the cast and crew on February 1, 2019. The Nickelodeon Animation Studio also had a special screening on July 24, 2019. The Frida Cinema in Santa Ana, California had a free showing on August 16, 2019. Jhonen Vasquez, Jenny Goldberg, and voice actors Rikki Simons and Melissa Fahn attended this event. They answered questions from fans.
