The Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities is a special place in Jerusalem, Israel. It was started in 1961 by the country of Israel. Its main jobs are to help smart people (scholars) in Israel connect with each other. It also acts like a "think tank" to give advice to the government. This advice is about important research projects for the country. Many of Israel's most famous and respected scholars are members of the Academy.
The Academy's offices are in Jerusalem, right next to the home of the President of Israel. They are also near the Council for Higher Education in Israel. This area is called Albert Einstein Square.

What the Academy Does
The Academy supports important research in two main areas: science and humanities.
Supporting Science and Research
In the world of science, the Academy helps fund many projects. These projects include studying the geology (rocks and land) of Israel. They also look at the plants and animals that live there. The Academy also helps Israeli scientists join big international research projects. For example, they help with high-energy physics research at CERN. They also support work with synchrotron radiation at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility. Israel is known for having a very high number of scientists and engineers. The Academy also gives out special awards in science, like the Alon Prize.
Exploring Humanities and Culture
In the humanities, the Academy supports studies about important cultural topics. This includes studying the Tanakh (Hebrew Bible) and Talmud (Jewish law). They also support research into Jewish history, Jewish philosophy, and Jewish art. The Academy helps with studies of the Hebrew language, including Hebrew stories and poems.
Managing Research Funds
The Academy manages several important funds for research. One is the Einstein Fellowships fund. This fund helps scientists from all over the world connect with Israeli researchers. Another big fund is the Israel Science Fund, which has a large budget each year. The Academy also uses money from other grants. These include grants from the Adler Fund for Space Research and the Wolf Foundation. There is also the Fulks Fund for Medical Research.
International Connections
The Academy also helps Israel connect with other countries in science and learning. It has a special role as an observer at the European Science Foundation. It also has exchange programs with famous groups like the British Royal Society and the British Academy. Other partners include the Swedish Academy and the National Research Council of Singapore. The Academy also runs the Israel Academic Center in Cairo. This center helps Israeli scholars study Egypt and Egyptian culture. It also helps them work with Egyptian academics.
