Jai Waetford (born January 25, 1999) is an Australian pop singer, songwriter, and actor. He became well-known after appearing on the fifth season of The X Factor Australia. After the show, he signed with Sony Music Australia. His first song, "Your Eyes", was very popular, reaching number six on the Australian music charts.

Jai released his first music collection, called an EP, in December 2013. It was named Jai Waetford. In 2016, Jai also joined the TV show Neighbours as a character named Angus Beaumont-Hannay. His latest EP, Heart Miles, came out in June 2016.

Early Life and Musical Beginnings

Jai Waetford was born in 1999 in Campbelltown, a suburb in Sydney, Australia. He grew up with his mother and grandparents. From a young age, Jai taught himself how to play the guitar. He learned by watching videos on YouTube. He went to Campbelltown Performing Arts High School and finished Year 10 in 2014.

Jai's Music Journey

Starting on The X Factor Australia

In 2013, Jai Waetford tried out for the TV show The X Factor Australia. He sang "Different Worlds" and his own song called "Don't Let Me Go". He made it through different stages of the competition.

During the show, he performed many popular songs. These included "Titanium" by David Guetta and "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" by Taylor Swift. Jai was part of the Boys category, and his mentor was Ronan Keating. He made it all the way to the grand final. Jai finished in third place, just behind Taylor Henderson and the winner, Dami Im.

First Songs and EPs

After The X Factor, Jai signed a music deal with Sony Music Australia. His first song, "Your Eyes", was released right away. It was a big hit, reaching number six on the Australian charts. It even sold enough copies to be certified gold.

In late 2013, Jai went on tour with other contestants from The X Factor. In December 2013, he released his first EP, Jai Waetford. It reached number 21 on the Australian album charts. His second EP, Get to Know You, came out in March 2014. The main song from this EP also did well on the charts. Jai also opened for the group Justice Crew on their tour in 2014. He released a third EP called Shy in 2015.

New Music and Tours (2016-2017)

In February 2016, Jai released a new song called "Living Not Dreaming". This was followed by his EP Heart Miles in June 2016. He made music videos for these songs. Jai traveled to Europe, Indonesia, and Thailand in 2016. He performed his new music and also sang covers of popular songs.

Returning to Music (2018)

In October 2018, Jai released his song "Lost in You". He shared that he wrote the song about someone who helped him during a difficult time. Jai also spoke openly about going through a tough period in his life. He said he "couldn't find happiness in anything" for a while.

After sharing his experiences, Jai became an ambassador for the Australian Suicide Prevention Foundation. He supported their "You Are Not Alone" campaign. He then released two more songs, "Get Over" and "Friends". Jai co-wrote "Friends", which is about how people act online versus in real life.

Besides singing, Jai Waetford also plays the guitar. He writes his own songs too. He has said that his musical inspirations include Justin Bieber, Bruno Mars, Guy Sebastian, Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, and Stevie Wonder.
