Jai Waetford (born on January 25, 1999) is an Australian pop singer, songwriter, and actor. He became well-known after appearing on the fifth season of The X Factor Australia. After the show, he signed with Sony Music Australia.
His first single, "Your Eyes", was a big hit, reaching number six on the Australian music charts. Jai also released his first EP (a mini-album) called Jai Waetford in December 2013. In 2016, he joined the TV show Neighbours as a character named Angus Beaumont-Hannay. His latest EP, Heart Miles, came out in June 2016.

Early Life and Musical Beginnings
Jai Waetford was born in 1999 in Campbelltown, a suburb in Sydney, Australia. He grew up with his mother and grandparents. From a young age, Jai taught himself how to play the guitar. He learned by watching videos on YouTube. He went to Campbelltown Performing Arts High School and finished Year 10 in 2014.

2013: Competing on The X Factor Australia
In 2013, Jai Waetford tried out for the fifth season of The X Factor Australia. He sang "Different Worlds" by Jes Hudak. He also performed his own song called "Don't Let Me Go".
He made it through several stages of the competition. These included super bootcamp and home visits. Jai was part of the Boys category, and his mentor was Ronan Keating. He performed many songs during the live shows. These included hits by Coldplay, The Beatles, and Michael Jackson.
Jai made it all the way to the grand final. He was the last contestant to be eliminated. He finished in third place, behind Taylor Henderson and the winner, Dami Im.

2013-2015: First EPs and Tours
After The X Factor, Jai signed a deal with Sony Music Australia. His first single, "Your Eyes", was released right away. It reached number six on the Australian charts. The song was certified gold, meaning it sold over 35,000 copies.
In late 2013, Jai went on The X Factor Live Tour. He performed with other contestants from his season. In December 2013, he released his first EP, Jai Waetford. It reached number 21 on the ARIA Albums Chart.
His second EP, Get to Know You, came out in March 2014. The main song from it, "Get to Know You", reached number 32 on the singles chart. Jai also opened for Justice Crew on their #HypeTour in Australia. His third EP, Shy, was released in January 2015. It included six cover songs and one new single.
2016-2017: New Music and Acting
In February 2016, Jai released a new single called "Living Not Dreaming". This was followed by his EP Heart Miles in June 2016. Music videos were made for both "Living Not Dreaming" and "Heart Miles".
Jai also made a video about his Heart Miles EP. In it, he talked about long-distance relationships. He toured in Europe, Indonesia, and Thailand in May and June 2016. During these tours, he performed his new songs and covers. He also joined the Australian TV show Neighbours as Angus Beaumont-Hannay. His first episode aired in May 2016.
2018: Returning to Music
In October 2018, Jai released his first new song in a year, called "Lost in You". He explained that he wrote the song about someone who helped him during a difficult time. He said this person made his life feel like it revolved around them.
Jai has also spoken about his past challenges with feeling sad or down. He shared his experiences to help others. He became an ambassador for the Australian Suicide Prevention Foundation's "You Are Not Alone" campaign. This campaign helps young people who might be struggling.
After "Lost in You", Jai released two more singles: "Get Over" and "Friends". He wrote "Friends" with James Agnus. Jai said "Friends" is about how people act online versus in real life. He explained that sometimes people say things online they wouldn't say face-to-face.
