Jeremy Dacre Ball (born August 10, 1968 – died September 15, 2014) was an Australian politician, actor, and activist. He served as the Deputy Mayor of Launceston, a large city in Tasmania, from 2011 until his death in 2014. He was a member of the Tasmanian Greens political party.
Jeremy Ball also worked as a professional actor in the late 1990s. He was well-known for playing Warren Harvey in the 1997 ABC television series, Fallen Angels. He also had a small part as a businessman in the famous movie The Matrix in 1999.
Jeremy Ball's Life Story
Jeremy Ball was born in Wonthaggi, Victoria, in 1968. He studied acting at the National Institute of Dramatic Art, graduating in 1995. After his studies, he started his acting career.
He played Warren Harvey in the ABC series, Fallen Angels in 1997. Jeremy Ball also appeared in the 1999 action movie, The Matrix. This movie was filmed in Sydney. In his scene, Jeremy Ball played a businessman talking on his cell phone. The main character, Neo, played by Keanu Reeves, grabs and takes Ball's phone. This happens while Neo is being chased through the city streets by Agent Smith, played by Hugo Weaving.
In 2002, Jeremy Ball moved back to his hometown of Launceston after living outside Australia for several years. He then became involved in politics and activism. He earned a Diploma of Business from NDA Tasmania. He ran as a candidate in several elections for the Tasmanian Greens party.
In 2007, Jeremy Ball was elected as an alderman to the Launceston City Council. An alderman is a member of a city council. He became known for supporting the city's migrant community. He also worked to protect Launceston's old buildings and the beautiful Cataract Gorge. In 2011, Jeremy Ball became the Deputy Mayor of Launceston. He held this important position until he passed away in 2014.
Jeremy Ball's Accident
Jeremy Ball passed away in a car accident on September 15, 2014. He was 45 years old. The accident happened on the Bass Highway near Carrick, Tasmania. His four-wheel drive vehicle crossed the highway and crashed into a log truck.
He was survived by his wife, Karina, and their two sons, Griffin and Jasper. Many people shared their sadness and paid tribute to Jeremy Ball. These included Launceston Mayor Albert Van Zetten, Premier of Tasmania Will Hodgman, and Tasmanian Greens leader Kim Booth. The Parliament of Tasmania held a moment of silence to remember him. Hundreds of people attended his funeral, which was held at Albert Hall in Launceston.
