Early Life and Music Beginnings
Jessie James Decker was born on April 12, 1988. Her birth name was Jessica Rose James. She was born in Vicenza, Italy, on an American military base. Her mother is Karen Johnson, and her father is Robert James. Her stepfather, Steve Parker, was in the U.S. Air Force. Because of this, Jessie lived in many different states. These included Iowa, Kentucky, Texas, Louisiana, and Georgia. She finished high school in Warner Robins, Georgia, in 2007.
Jessie has two younger siblings, Sydney Rae Bass and John James. She also has two stepsiblings, Ashley and Alex Parker.
Singing from a Young Age
Jessie started singing when she was only two years old. She won her first talent show at age nine in Baker, Louisiana. She sang a song called "I Want to Be a Cowboy's Sweetheart". By then, she was already writing her own songs. She even performed at places like SeaWorld. When she was fifteen, she often traveled to Nashville. She went there to get better at writing songs.
Music Career
Getting Started in Music
When Jessie was seventeen, she met Carla Wallace. Carla worked for an independent music company called Big Yellow Dog Music. Carla helped Jessie improve her songwriting and singing. One of Jessie's songs, "Gypsy Girl," reached a music executive named David Massey. He then introduced her to L.A. Reid. Jessie sang her song "My Cowboy" for Reid. Soon after, she signed a contract with Mercury Records.
Jessie thought she would make a country music album. But the record company wanted her to record a pop album instead. They even asked her to sound like the pop singer Britney Spears. Jessie said making the album was "intense" because it mixed different music styles. She always said she was "a country girl at heart" because she grew up listening to country music.
First Album and Beyond
Her first album, Jessie James, came out in August 2009. It reached number 23 on the Billboard 200 music chart. The album mixed country and pop music, but it had more pop sounds. Jessie helped write some of the songs on the album. Critics had different opinions about the album. Some liked it, but others felt it wasn't truly country music. The album's first song, "Wanted", came out in April. It reached number 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Jessie later performed for U.S. troops overseas. She traveled to the Middle East with singer Kid Rock and comedian Carlos Mencia.
She started working on her second album, Sweet American Dreams, in 2010. It was supposed to be a country-pop album. The first song from it, "Boys in the Summer," was a small success in country music. However, Jessie told her record company that she wanted to sing country music, not pop. After discussions, she started recording country music in April 2011. She released songs like "When You Say My Name" and "Military Man."
In 2014, Jessie released an EP called Comin' Home. It quickly became number one on the iTunes top albums chart. It also reached the top 5 on Billboard's top country albums chart.
Jessie was featured on a song called "Howlin'" by Austin John. She also finished her Lights Down Low tour. In 2017, she released another EP called Gold. She also released a live EP called Blackbird Sessions. On October 13, 2017, her second full-length album, Southern Girl City Lights, came out.
In April 2022, Jessie sang "America the Beautiful" at WWE's WrestleMania 38. This was in front of nearly 80,000 people in Dallas, Texas. In November 2023, she performed "Tangled in Tinsel" at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Television Appearances
Reality TV Show
In 2013, Jessie starred in a reality TV show with her husband, Eric Decker. The show was called Eric & Jessie: Game On and was on the E! channel. It showed their lives as a singer and a football player. The show ended in April 2014 but came back in September 2017. It had 20 episodes over three seasons.

Musical Style and Influences
Jessie Decker helped write most of the songs on her first album. Her music mixes country and pop styles. It also shows her love for soul music.
The beat for her song "Blue Jeans" was made from a recording of Jessie stepping. This is a type of rhythmic dance. When she first tried to get a music deal in Nashville, some people didn't like her soul music-inspired singing.
Jessie has said that singers like Christina Aguilera, Jessica Simpson, Bobbie Gentry, Janis Joplin, Shelby Lynne, and Shania Twain have influenced her music. She wanted a career like Bobbie Gentry and Shania Twain. They were signed to pop labels but also found success in country music.
Personal Life
Jessie married Eric Decker on June 22, 2013. At that time, he was a wide receiver for the Denver Broncos football team. They have four children together.
