Charles Joseph John Hart (born 19 April 1987) is an English football expert and former professional footballer. He played as a goalkeeper.

Joe Hart started his career at his hometown club, Shrewsbury Town. In 2006, he joined Manchester City in the Premier League. He also spent time on loan at other clubs like Birmingham City. There, he was named the best Premier League goalkeeper for the season.

He returned to Manchester City and won the Golden Glove award multiple times. This award is for the goalkeeper with the most clean sheets (games without letting in a goal). He helped Manchester City win two Premier League titles.

Later in his career, Hart played for Torino, West Ham United, Burnley, and Tottenham Hotspur. In 2021, he joined Scottish Premiership team Celtic. At Celtic, he won seven trophies in three seasons. This included three Scottish Premiership titles. Joe Hart announced his retirement from football in February 2024.

He also played for the England senior team from 2008 to 2017. He played in two FIFA World Cups and two UEFA European Championships. He is known for keeping 43 clean sheets for England.

Early Life and Football Beginnings

Joe Hart was born in Shrewsbury, England, on April 19, 1987. His father sold gym equipment, and his mother was a nursery school teacher. He went to Oxon Primary School and Meole Brace School. He was even the head boy in his last year of school.

As a young boy, Joe was also a talented cricketer. He played for Shrewsbury Cricket Club and spent two years with Worcestershire County Cricket Club's youth teams. He played alongside future England cricketer Steven Davies.

Starting at Shrewsbury Town

Joe Hart was only 15 when he first traveled with the first team of his hometown club, Shrewsbury Town. He was a substitute in a match in February 2003. He made his official senior debut on April 20, 2004, the day after his 17th birthday. This was during the season Shrewsbury spent in the Football Conference.

In the 2005–06 season, Hart became the main goalkeeper for Shrewsbury Town. He played all 46 league matches that season. Even though the team let in many goals, Joe's own performances were praised. He earned his first England under-19 cap in October 2005.

Many top clubs in the Premier League noticed Joe Hart. Scouts from teams like Everton, Arsenal, and Chelsea came to watch him play. Manchester City showed the most interest. In January 2006, fans voted him the top player in League Two. He was also named the best goalkeeper in League Two by other professional players. This earned him a spot in the League Two PFA Team of the Year.

Playing for Manchester City

Joe Hart officially joined Manchester City in 2006. The club's goalkeeping coach, Tim Flowers, saw his great potential. Hart made his first appearance for City on October 14, 2006. He kept a clean sheet in this match, which ended 0–0.

Early Loan Spells

In January 2007, Hart went on loan to League One club Tranmere Rovers. He played six matches there. Later, in April 2007, he joined Blackpool on loan. Blackpool won all five matches he played in, and he kept a clean sheet in his first game for them.

Becoming Manchester City's Number One

After his successful loan at Blackpool, Manchester City manager Sven-Göran Eriksson made Hart the team's main goalkeeper. Eriksson called him "one of the biggest talents in this country." Hart made his England debut in June 2008. He signed a new five-year contract with City later that year.

When Shay Given joined Manchester City in January 2009, Hart became the second-choice goalkeeper.

Loan to Birmingham City

In June 2009, Joe Hart went on a season-long loan to Birmingham City. They had just been promoted to the Premier League. He made his debut against Manchester United.

At first, Hart made some mistakes. But his performances quickly improved. He showed great judgment and made impressive saves. Birmingham City went on a club-record 12-match unbeaten run. Hart was voted Birmingham City's Player of the Year for the 2009–10 season. He was also named in the PFA Team of the Year.

This made him one of the most awarded goalkeepers in Premier League history. On February 24, 2015, he saved a penalty from FIFA Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi. Messi later called Hart a "phenomenon."

Later Club Career

Loans to Torino and West Ham United

Hart played in 36 league matches for Torino. However, he made some high-profile mistakes. After his loan, Torino did not sign him permanently. In July 2017, Hart joined West Ham United on a season-long loan. He played 19 league games but was later replaced as the starting goalkeeper.

Moving to Burnley and Tottenham Hotspur

In August 2018, Hart joined Burnley permanently. This ended his 12 years with Manchester City. He played in Burnley's first 19 league games. However, when other goalkeepers returned from injury, he became a backup again. He left the club in June 2020.
