Jorge Campos Navarrete (born October 15, 1966) is a famous Mexican football player. He was mostly a goalkeeper, but he also played as a striker for his clubs.

Campos was a very important player for the Mexican national team in the 1990s and early 2000s. He was known for his exciting and unique style. He often left his goal area to play like a regular field player, almost like a "sweeper-keeper." He was also famous for his amazing acrobatic saves and his super colorful uniforms! Even though he wasn't very tall for a goalkeeper, he was incredibly athletic, fast, and could jump really high. He was considered one of the best goalkeepers of his time.

What made Campos even more special was his ability to play as a striker. It's very rare to see a player switch between goalkeeper and striker in the same game! He scored 35 goals in his career, mostly when playing for UNAM. His bright, self-designed uniforms also made him very popular with fans.

Playing for Clubs

Jorge Campos started his football journey in 1988 with a Mexican team called Pumas. At first, another player was the main goalkeeper. Because Campos wanted to play more, he asked to try playing as a striker instead. He did really well, scoring 14 goals in his first season!

Later, he became the main goalkeeper for Pumas and helped them win the championship in 1990–91. He also won a championship with Cruz Azul in 1997, even though he was the second-choice goalkeeper there. Sometimes, he would come into the game as a substitute striker.

Campos played for other Mexican clubs like Atlante, Tigres, and Puebla. He even scored an amazing bicycle kick goal for Atlante in 1997! In that game, he started as the goalkeeper. But when his team needed a goal, the coach sent him to play forward.

He also played in the United States for the Los Angeles Galaxy and Chicago Fire in the first few seasons of Major League Soccer. He was one of the first big international stars to join the league and became very popular there.

Playing for Mexico

Campos was the main goalkeeper for the Mexican national team in two FIFA World Cup tournaments: 1994 and 1998. He was also part of the team for the 2002 FIFA World Cup, but he didn't play in that one. Overall, he played 129 games for his country.

In 1999, during a tournament in Hong Kong, Campos had to return to Mexico for a family matter. He was also invited many times to play with a "Rest of the World Team" against famous clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona. His last game for Mexico was in 2004.

He also played for the Mexican Olympic team at the 1996 Summer Olympics.

After Playing Football

After retiring as a player, Jorge Campos became an assistant manager for the Mexican national team from 2004 to 2006.
