Joshua Thomas Radnor (born July 29, 1974) is an American actor, filmmaker, author, and musician. He is best known for playing Ted Mosby on the popular TV show How I Met Your Mother. This show ran from 2005 to 2014.
Josh Radnor also writes and directs movies. His first film, Happythankyoumoreplease (2010), won an award at the Sundance Film Festival. In 2012, he wrote, directed, and starred in his second movie, Liberal Arts. He has also acted in plays on Broadway, like Disgraced in 2014. More recently, he starred in TV series such as Mercy Street, Rise, and Hunters. In 2024, he returned to the stage in the play The Ally.

Early Life and Education
Josh Radnor was born in Columbus, Ohio. His mother, Carol Radnor, was a high school counselor, and his father, Alan Radnor, was a lawyer. Josh has two sisters.
He grew up in Bexley, Ohio, a suburb of Columbus. He went to a Jewish day school called Columbus Torah Academy. Later, he attended Bexley High School and then Kenyon College. At Kenyon, he studied drama and even won an award for his theater work. He also spent a semester training at the National Theater Institute.
In 1996, he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in drama from Kenyon. He then went on to get his Master of Fine Arts degree in acting from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts in 1999.
Acting and Directing Career
Josh Radnor started his acting career in the early 2000s. In 2002, he made his first appearance on Broadway in the play The Graduate. He also acted in The Paris Letter in 2004, where he worked with Neil Patrick Harris, who would later become his co-star.
From 2005 to 2014, Radnor played the main character, Ted Mosby, in the very popular CBS TV show How I Met Your Mother. This show was about a group of friends living in New York City and their adventures in finding love. He acted alongside Cobie Smulders, Neil Patrick Harris, Jason Segel, and Alyson Hannigan. This role became his most famous one.
In 2010, Josh Radnor showed his talent behind the camera. He wrote and directed the comedy-drama film Happythankyoumoreplease, where he also starred. His second movie as a director was Liberal Arts in 2012, which also featured him as an actor alongside Elizabeth Olsen. This film was shown at the Sundance Film Festival.
Radnor continued to work in theater, appearing in the Broadway play Disgraced in 2014. From 2016 to 2017, he played Dr. Jedediah Foster in the historical drama Mercy Street on PBS.
Music and Recent Projects
In 2016, Josh Radnor formed a band called Radnor and Lee with Australian musician Ben Lee. They had known each other for many years. Their first album, Radnor & Lee, came out in 2017 and was well-received. Their second album, Golden State, was released in June 2020.
Josh Radnor also started releasing solo music. His first solo music collection, called an EP, One More Then I'll Let You Go, was released in April 2021. He has continued to release solo music since then.
From 2020 to 2023, he starred as Lonny Flash in the Amazon Prime series Hunters, acting with Al Pacino. He also lent his voice to the character Durpleton in the Netflix animated series Centaurworld in 2021. In 2022, he had a recurring role as Adam in the series Fleishman Is in Trouble. In 2024, he returned to the stage in the play The Ally.
Personal Life
Josh Radnor practices Transcendental Meditation, which is a way to relax and focus the mind. He has mentioned that he chose his home partly because it was a good place for him to meditate.
He is also a big fan of the band Cloud Cult. He even worked with them to create a film called The Seeker in 2016.
Josh Radnor married clinical psychologist Jordana J. Jacobs on January 6, 2024.
