Who Won?
The winner of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2008 was Georgia with the group Bzikebi. Their song was called "Bzz.." and it was sung in an imaginary language! They received a total of 154 points.
The second place went to Ukraine with Viktoria Petryk singing "Matrosy". Lithuania came in third place with Eglė Jurgaitytė and her song "Laiminga diena".
How Did Voting Work?
Voting was done by people in each country using phone calls and SMS messages. This public vote counted for half of the total score. The other half came from a special jury in each country.
Each country gave points to their favorite songs: 1 to 8 points, then 10 points, and finally 12 points for their absolute favorite. To make sure no country ended up with zero points, every country automatically started with 12 points!
Here's a quick look at which countries gave 12 points to whom:
N. | Contestant | Voting nation |
---|---|---|
8 | Georgia | Armenia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Lithuania, Netherlands, Russia, Ukraine |
3 | Ukraine | Georgia, Malta, Romania |
1 | Lithuania | Serbia |
Russia | Belarus | |
Cyprus | Greece | |
Serbia | Macedonia |
When Cyprus received 12 points from Greece, the audience was very excited! This often happens because Greece and Cyprus usually give each other high points in the contest.
