The Kitigan River is a small river located in the town of Moonbeam, which is in the Cochrane District of Northeastern Ontario, Canada. This river is part of the large James Bay drainage basin. This means its waters eventually flow into James Bay. The Kitigan River is a smaller stream that flows into Remi Lake.

The River's Journey

The Kitigan River starts its journey in a natural wet area called a wetland. This is where the river's water first gathers. From its source, the river flows generally north.

Passing Under Roads and Rails

As it continues its path, the Kitigan River goes under Ontario Highway 11. This is a major road in Ontario. It also passes beneath the tracks of the Ontario Northland Railway.

Flowing to Remi Lake

After flowing north for a while, the river turns west. Then, it changes direction again and heads northeast. Finally, the Kitigan River reaches its end point. It flows into Kitigan Bay, which is on the west side of Remi Lake.

Part of a Bigger System

The water from Remi Lake doesn't stay there. It flows out through the Remi River. This river then joins the Kapuskasing River. The Kapuskasing River then flows into the Mattagami River. Finally, the Mattagami River connects to the Moose River. All these rivers work together to carry water all the way to James Bay. This shows how the Kitigan River is a small but important part of a much larger water system!
