About Remi Lake
Remi Lake is a freshwater lake in northern Ontario. It stretches about 8.8 kilometers (5.5 miles) long and 5.2 kilometers (3.2 miles) wide. The lake sits at an elevation of 226 meters (741 feet) above sea level.
Where is Remi Lake?
Remi Lake is located in the Cochrane District of Northeastern Ontario. It's a bit of a journey to get there, but it's worth it for the natural beauty. The lake is partly in the town of Moonbeam and also in an unorganized area called Gurney Township.
How Water Flows In and Out
Lakes like Remi Lake are constantly getting new water and sending water away. The main river that flows into Remi Lake is the Kitigan River. It enters the lake at a spot called Kitigan Bay on the west side. Other smaller streams, like Beaver Creek and Spruce Creek, also add water to the lake.
The main river that flows out of Remi Lake is the Remi River. It leaves the lake from Outlet Bay on the northwest side. From there, the Remi River connects to several other rivers: the Kapuskasing River, then the Mattagami River, and finally the Moose River. All these rivers eventually carry Remi Lake's water all the way to James Bay. This whole system of rivers and lakes is called a drainage basin.
Exploring the Area Around Remi Lake
A large part of the north and east sides of Remi Lake is home to René Brunelle Provincial Park. This park is a great place for outdoor activities like camping, fishing, and enjoying nature. You can get to the park by taking Ontario Highway 581, which connects to a larger road, Ontario Highway 11. There are also other local roads that let people reach the southern parts of the lake.
