The Lázaro Galdiano Museum (in Spanish: Museo Lázaro Galdiano) is a special art museum in Madrid, Spain. It holds a huge collection of art that was gathered by a man named José Lázaro Galdiano. The museum first opened its doors on January 27, 1951.
Museum History
The building where the museum is located was built in 1903. It was originally the home of José Lázaro Galdiano and his wife. The house is surrounded by beautiful grounds. It also has a library with Galdiano's important collection of old books and handwritten papers.
When the building was turned into a museum, its original look was kept. You can still see the fancy painted ceilings that Galdiano had made. He passed away in 1947. Galdiano gave his entire personal collection of over 12,000 items to the Spanish government.
After Galdiano's death, the Fundación Lázaro GaldianoBien de Interés Cultural. This means it is a very important historical site in Spain.
