A Look Back in Time
How Laceys Creek Got Its Name
The area we now call Laceys Creek gets its name from a local stream. This stream was first known as Bullon Creek. Later, its name changed to Leacys Creek. This new name was given after John Leacy, who settled in the area on April 17, 1879. Over time, the name "Leacys" slowly changed into "Laceys," which is what we use today.
Early School Days
A school called Lacey's Creek Provisional School opened its doors on January 1, 1898. A provisional school was a small school that might not have been permanent at first. On January 1, 1909, it became Lacey's Creek State School, which meant it was a permanent government school. However, the school closed on August 25, 1963. It was located at 6 Wirths Road, which is about 27°12′17″S 152°44′42″E / 27.2047°S 152.7451°E.
