Lake Marble Falls is a man-made lake, also called a reservoir, located on the Colorado River. You can find it in the beautiful Texas Hill Country in the United States. This lake was created in 1951. It was formed when the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) built the Max Starcke Dam.
The dam was first named Marble Falls Dam. But in 1962, it was renamed after Max Starcke. He was an important leader of the LCRA. Lake Marble Falls is near the town of Marble Falls. People use the lake for fun water activities. It also helps to make electricity. It is the newest and smallest of the seven Texas Highland Lakes.
The other lakes on the Colorado River are Lake Buchanan, Inks Lake, Lake LBJ, Lake Travis, Lake Austin, and Lady Bird Lake.
Animals and Plants in Lake Marble Falls
Lake Marble Falls is special because it does not have a plant called hydrilla. Hydrilla is an invasive plant from Asia. It can take over lakes and harm native plants and animals. Many other lakes in the Texas Highland Lakes system have this plant.
The lake has been stocked with different kinds of native fish. This helps make the lake a great place for fishing. You can find fish like largemouth bass, catfish, and sunfish here. Lake Marble Falls is also known for its large Striped Bass. It is even in the "top 50" for record-breaking Striped Bass in Texas freshwater fish records.
Fun Things to Do at Lake Marble Falls
Most of the land around Lake Marble Falls is privately owned. But the lake itself is a popular spot for many activities. Fishing is a favorite pastime for many visitors. Boating is also very popular on the lake.
Each year, Lake Marble Falls hosts a special event called Lakefest. This event features exciting drag boat races. People come from all over to watch these fast boats zoom across the water.
