The large woodshrike (Tephrodornis virgatus) is a cool bird found in parts of Asia. You can spot it in places like Sumatra, Java, and Borneo. It also lives in many countries in south-eastern Asia.
These birds like to live in different kinds of forests. They can be found in cool temperate forests, warm subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, and even mangrove forests near the coast. They also live in moist montane forests, which are forests found on mountains.
About the Large Woodshrike
Large woodshrikes are part of a bird family called Vangidae. Scientists group animals into families to show how they are related. It's like how your family has a last name!
Different Kinds of Large Woodshrikes
Just like people from different places might look a little different, animals can have different groups too. These groups are called subspecies. A subspecies is a group within a species that has small differences, often because they live in different areas.
There are ten known subspecies of the large woodshrike. They live in various parts of Asia, from the Himalayas to China and down to Indonesia. For example, some live in Myanmar, others in Thailand, and some even on islands like Hainan and Borneo. Each subspecies has a slightly different home range.
