Limerick Township is a community located in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, United States. It's called a "township," which is a type of local government area.

History of Limerick Township
Limerick Township got its name from the hometown of an early settler, William Evans. His family came to this area from Limerick, Ireland in 1698. The township was first mentioned in Philadelphia court records around the 1710s. However, its official boundaries were not set until March 1726.
In 1879, a part of Limerick Township became its own town called Royersford. Limerick Township is part of the Spring-Ford Area School District, which means students from the township go to schools in this district.
The township has grown a lot over the years. In 1990, about 6,600 people lived there. By the 2010 census, the population had grown to 18,074. Limerick Township has experienced some challenging weather events, including a strong tornado in 1994 that caused significant damage.
Two historic buildings in the township, the William and Mordecai Evans House and the Isaac Hunsberger House, are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This means they are important places that are protected for their historical value.
Geography and Climate
Limerick Township covers an area of about 22.8 square miles (59.0 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with a small part being water.
A notable feature within the township is the Limerick Nuclear Power Plant. You can also find Heritage Field Airport here. The Schuylkill River flows along the township's border, separating it from Chester County.

Limerick Township is located about 34 miles (55 kilometers) northwest of Center City, Philadelphia. The climate here is generally warm and humid in the summer. In January, the average temperature is around 30.3°F (-0.9°C), and in July, it's about 74.8°F (23.8°C).

Transportation Routes
As of 2022, Limerick Township has about 120.30 miles (193.60 kilometers) of public roads. Some of these roads are maintained by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), and others are maintained by the township itself.
U.S. Route 422 is the main highway that goes through Limerick Township. It's also known as the Pottstown Expressway. This highway runs from the northwest to the southeast part of the township. It has three exits that allow people to get on and off the highway.
Public transportation is also available. SEPTA provides bus service to Limerick Township.
- Route 93 travels between Norristown and Pottstown. It also stops at the Philadelphia Premium Outlets in the township.
- Route 139 connects the King of Prussia mall to Limerick.
Pottstown Area Rapid Transit (PART) also has a bus route, the Blue Line, that goes to the Philadelphia Premium Outlets and then heads west to Pottstown.
Notable People from Limerick
- Joseph F. Buzby, from Royersford, Pennsylvania, invented a Glass Telephone Insulator in 1890. This invention was very important for telephone technology at the time.
- Bob Shoudt, also known as Notorious B.O.B., is a competitive eater. He holds many world records, including eating almost 60 pounds of food and drink in four hours at an event in 2018.
