In 2017, the world grew a massive 182.3 million metric tonnes of tomatoes! A metric tonne is equal to 1,000 kilograms, or about 2,200 pounds. This was a slight increase from 2016, when 179.5 million tonnes were grown. Guess which country grew the most? China, by far, producing almost a third of all tomatoes globally!
