Royal Warrant - Jenners in Edinburgh - 2004-10-22
Royal Warrant awarded by Queen Elizabeth II to Jenners, a department store in Edinburgh

Imagine a special sticker or badge that a company can put on its products to show that the Royal Family buys from them! That's pretty much what a Royal Warrant is in the United Kingdom. It's a big honour given to businesses or skilled people who regularly supply goods or services to the British Royal Family. It's like a royal seal of approval!

Currently, King Charles III grants these special warrants. They let a supplier proudly advertise that they provide goods or services to the Royal Family. But not everyone can get one. For example, jobs like party planners, media companies, or places like pubs and theatres usually don't qualify. It's also against the law for companies to pretend they have a royal warrant if they don't.

Who Grants Royal Warrants?

Royal Warrants are given out by members of the Royal Family who are in charge of their own households.

Queen Elizabeth II's Warrants

Elizabeth II granted 686 royal warrants during her long reign. When she passed away in September 2022, all the warrants she had given out were reviewed. Companies that held her warrant have two years to stop using her royal symbols.

King Charles III's Warrants

Before he became King, King Charles III was the Prince of Wales. During that time, he granted 159 royal warrants. Now that he is King, he continues to grant new warrants.

Prince Philip's Warrants

Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh granted 38 royal warrants. When he passed away in April 2021, his warrants were also reviewed. Companies had two years to stop using his royal symbols.

Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother's Warrants

Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother also granted many royal warrants. These warrants ended when she passed away in 2002.

You can find a list of all current royal warrant holders through the Royal Warrant Holders Association.
