Sheffield's Tallest Buildings (Finished!)
This section lists buildings and structures in the Sheffield City Region that are already finished and stand at least 50 meters (about 164 feet) tall. This includes buildings that have reached their full height, even if they're not completely ready inside yet.
This building is 101 meters (331 feet) tall and has 32 floors. It was finished in 2010 and is used for homes. It was the first "skyscraper" (a very tall building) built in Sheffield and has been the tallest building in the city since it was completed. It's a big part of the Heart of the City project, which is making Sheffield's city centre even better.
- 2. Arts Tower
Standing at 78 meters (256 feet) with 20 floors, the Arts Tower was built in 1965. It's a university building, owned by the University of Sheffield. When it was built, it was the tallest university building in the world! It's still the tallest university building in the UK today. It even has a special type of elevator called a paternoster lift, which is like a continuous chain of open compartments – very rare!
- 3. Royal Hallamshire Hospital
This hospital is 76 meters (249 feet) tall and has 17 floors. It was finished in 1974. It's a major hospital in Sheffield, helping lots of people every day. It replaced two older hospitals in the city.
- 4. Sheffield Energy Recovery Facility
This industrial building's chimney is 75 meters (246 feet) tall and was completed in 2006. It's an "Energy from Waste" plant, which means it burns the city's rubbish to create electricity for the country's power supply and also provides heating for local homes and businesses.
This residential building is 66 meters (217 feet) tall and has 22 floors, finished in 2009. It was supposed to be much taller, with 36 floors, but building stopped because of a big economic problem called the Great Recession.

Also 66 meters (217 feet) tall, this residential building has 21 floors and was completed in 2018. It's the main part of Sheffield's new Chinatown area.

This residential tower is 64 meters (210 feet) tall with 21 floors, completed in 2020. It was originally planned as an office building, but after a break in construction, it was redesigned as homes.
- 8. Sheffield Town Hall
The Town Hall stands at 61 meters (200 feet) tall, with 6 floors, and was built way back in 1896. It's where the local government works. Its clocktower, with a statue on top, was the tallest building in Sheffield for many years until 1965.
- 9. Hollis Croft
This residential building is 60 meters (197 feet) tall and has 18 floors. It was finished in 2019 and provides homes for students.
This church is 59 meters (195 feet) tall and was built in 1850. It was the tallest building in Sheffield from 1850 until the Town Hall was built.
- 11. St John's Church
This church, finished in 1879, is 58 meters (190 feet) tall.
- 12. Tapton Hill transmitting station
This broadcasting tower is 57 meters (187 feet) tall and was built in 1967. It sends out radio and TV signals across Sheffield and also helps with mobile phone signals, including the city's 5G network.
This building is 56 meters (184 feet) tall with 16 floors. It was built in 1972 and was originally used for telephone offices. Now, it's been changed into apartments for students.

This residential building is 55 meters (180 feet) tall with 13 floors, built in 1958. It's one of the "Herdings Twin Towers" and is known for its strong, simple design style called Brutalism.
This church in Rotherham is 55 meters (180 feet) tall and was built in 1540. It's the tallest building in the Sheffield City Region outside of Sheffield itself.

This residential building is 54 meters (177 feet) tall with 14 floors, built in 1971. It used to be offices for the city council but has now been changed into student apartments.
- 17. Steelworks House
Finished in 2022, this residential building is 53 meters (174 feet) tall and has 17 floors. It's a new student accommodation complex built where old factories and warehouses used to be.
- 18. Cosmos
This residential building is 52 meters (171 feet) tall with 17 floors, completed in 2021. It provides homes for students in the city centre.

This building is planned to be 117 meters (384 feet) tall with 38 floors and should be finished in 2024. It will be used for homes. When it's completed, Code Sheffield will become the tallest building in all of Yorkshire! Building started in March 2022.
- 2. Calico Sheffield
This building is planned to be 85 meters (279 feet) tall with 27 floors and should be finished in 2025. It will be used for student homes. Construction started in late 2023 or early 2024.
- 3. Vista Sheffield
This apartment block is planned to be 50 meters (164 feet) tall with 16 floors and was scheduled for completion in 2022. It's being built near the Sheffield Interchange.
Future Buildings (Approved!)
This section lists buildings that have been approved for construction (meaning they have permission to be built) in the Sheffield City Region and are planned to be at least 50 meters (164 feet) tall.
- 1. Kings Tower
This tower is planned to be 120 meters (394 feet) tall with 40 floors. It will be used for homes with shops on the ground floor. When it's built, Kings Tower will become Sheffield's third "skyscraper" and the tallest building in the city, even taller than Code Sheffield!
- 2. The Meridian
This building is planned to be 75 meters (246 feet) tall with 23 floors. It will be the tallest student accommodation building in Sheffield when it's built.
- 3. Midcity Tower
This tower is planned to be 65 meters (213 feet) tall with 19 floors and will be used for homes. Plans for this building were first made a long time ago but were put on hold because of the Great Recession.
