Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Upstate New York is the part of New York that's north of New York City and Westchester County. It's home to many tall buildings called skyscrapers and high-rises. The very tallest building in all of New York State is the One World Trade Center. It has 104 floors and stands 1,776 feet (541 meters) tall in Lower Manhattan, New York City. It was finished in 2014.

New York City has most of the state's skyscrapers. But outside the city, you'll find many tall buildings in Albany, Buffalo, and Rochester. The tallest building in Upstate New York is the Erastus Corning Tower. It's 44 stories high and reaches 589 feet (180 meters) into the sky in Albany, which is the state's capital city. Even though it's the tallest in Upstate New York, it's not among the 100 tallest buildings in the whole state when you include all the giant skyscrapers in New York City.
