The little green sunbird (scientific name: Anthreptes seimundi) is a tiny, colorful bird. It is also known as Seimund's sunbird. This bird belongs to the Nectariniidae family, which includes many types of sunbirds.

You can find the little green sunbird in many countries across Africa. These include Angola, Cameroon, Central African Republic, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It also lives in Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Ghana, Liberia, and Nigeria. Other homes are Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, and Uganda.

Types of Little Green Sunbirds

Just like people can have different groups, animals can too! These different groups are called subspecies. The little green sunbird has three known subspecies. Each one lives in a slightly different area.

  • A. s. seimundi: This subspecies lives on Bioko island, which is in the Gulf of Guinea.
  • A. s. kruensis: You can find this subspecies from Guinea and Sierra Leone all the way to Ghana and Togo.
  • A. s. minor: This group lives in southern Nigeria and southern Cameroon. Its range extends east to the Central African Republic, southern South Sudan, Uganda, and Rwanda. It also goes south to northern Angola and the central Democratic Republic of the Congo.
