Los Fresnos is a city located in Cameron County, Texas, in the United States. In 2020, about 8,114 people lived there. This was a big jump from 5,542 people in 2010! Los Fresnos is part of a larger area that includes nearby cities like Brownsville and Harlingen.
The city got its name from the fresnos trees, which are a type of ash tree. These trees grew all over the woods and along the streams in the area. In 1912, a man named Lon Hill started a company. His goal was to build a canal system. This system would use water from the Rio Grande river to water the land for farming.
Around the early 1900s, new railroads brought more people to the area. By 1915, Los Fresnos even had its own post office. Because the land was so good for farming and had plenty of water, crops grew very well. The Rio Grande Valley has a long growing season. This helped farming to really succeed. Even today, Los Fresnos is surrounded by rich farmland and ranches. Important crops grown here include cotton, sugarcane, grains, oranges, and red grapefruit.
