Lower Wick is a neighborhood located in the city of Worcester, in England. It sits southwest of the city center, near St. John's and the River Severn. Lower Wick is also right next to a village called Powick.
Most of Lower Wick has houses built in the 1960s. The streets in this area often have names inspired by places in Canada. There's also a newer part, built in the 1990s, where the streets are named after different types of birds.

History of Lower Wick
Lower Wick has a long and interesting history. The site of the Lower Wick Manor House has been important since the 1200s. It was once a home for the Bishop of Worcester, a high-ranking church leader.
Bennetts Farm and the Civil War
Today, the old Manor Farm is known as Bennetts Farm. It's a popular place for visitors, especially because they make delicious ice cream there! The farm is located right by the River Severn.
A very important event in English history happened right where Bennetts Farm is now. This was the Battle of Worcester in 1651. It was the final battle of the English Civil War. During this battle, King Charles II famously hid in a tree to escape capture. This special tree was located between Lower Wick and Powick, close to the River Teme.
Historic Buildings
Another interesting old building is Southwick Lodge. It's an old villa built in the 1830s and is considered a Grade II listed building. This means it's an important historical building that needs to be protected. You can find it on the Old Road that leads to Powick.
Flooding in Lower Wick
Lower Wick is located less than a mile northwest of where the River Severn and the River Teme meet. Because of this, the area sometimes experiences flooding. For example, during the big floods in July 2007, many main roads in and out of Lower Wick and St. John's had to be closed because of the high water.
Local Facilities
Lower Wick offers several facilities for its residents and visitors. You can find a golf course there, perfect for practicing your swing. There's also a swimming pool, great for cooling off or getting some exercise.
One of the two Churches of Latter Day Saints in Worcestershire is located in Lower Wick. There is also another church that welcomes people from all different faiths. For everyday needs, Lower Wick has a petrol station and several other shops.
Notable People from Lower Wick
Jabez Allies (1787–1856) was a well-known person who lived in Lower Wick. He was a solicitor, which is a type of lawyer. He was also a very important writer who studied the history and folklore (traditional stories and beliefs) of Worcestershire.
