In 2009, he decided to leave the Communist Party. He felt it was not possible to make changes within the party. After leaving, he joined the Democratic Party of Moldova.
Alliance for European Integration
In July 2009, after another parliamentary election, Marian Lupu joined with other political leaders. Together, they formed an agreement called the Alliance For European Integration. This alliance aimed to bring Moldova closer to Europe.
