Language and Identity

In Moldova, there has been a discussion about the country's language and identity. Marian Lupu identifies himself as an ethnic Moldovan. He supported keeping "Moldovan language" in the Constitution as the official state language.

He once said that "scientifically, I speak Romanian, but politically, I speak Moldovan." Later, he changed his view, stating that "scientifically is not Romanian anymore... but the Moldovan [language]." He believes in the idea of a distinct Moldovan people and nation, separate from Romania.

Other Views

In 2010, Marian Lupu expressed pride that Moldovan soldiers marched in the 2010 Moscow Victory Day Parade. This was a parade in Moscow celebrating victory in World War II. Some other politicians did not agree with the presence of the Moldovan National Army's Honor Guard Company at this event.
